The Human Capital Project (HCP) inspires and informs investments in people using a “whole of government” approach to advance knowledge, evidence, and action across sectors for greater impact. Developed  by the Capitals Coalition and UNEP-WCMC, the Navigation Tool compliments the Biodiversity Guidance by steering practitioners through a series of interactive questions to help them undertake a biodiversity-inclusive natural capital assessment. The tool also offers supporting resources, tools, methodologies and advice to assist an assessment based on user responses. A holistic systems approach sits at the heart of a capitals approach.

The capitals – natural, social, human and produced – form the foundation of human wellbeing and economic success. The Human Capital Data Portal provides global, regional, and economy-level data on key dimensions of human capital, including education, health, social protection, and labor. The Cambridge Conservation Initiative and Capitals Coalition developed the Biodiversity Guidance to accompany the Natural Capital Protocol. It is designed to help businesses and financial institutions to better understand the value they receive from biodiversity, and to apply this knowledge as they make decisions, through a biodiversity-inclusive natural capital assessment. This structure supports better understanding of how capitals information has been generated, provides criteria to judge whether it’s f it for purpose, and helps to summarize how it informs the decision at hand.

Almost everything you own and use for personal or investment purposes is a capital asset. Examples of capital assets include a home, personal-use items like household furnishings, and stocks or bonds held as investments. When you sell a capital asset, the difference between the adjusted basis in the asset and the amount you realized from the sale is a capital gain or a capital loss. Generally, an asset’s basis is its cost to the owner, but if you received the asset as a gift or inheritance, refer to Publication 551, Basis of Assets for information about your basis. You have a capital gain if you sell the asset for more than your adjusted basis.

Human Capital Reviews (HCRs) are World Bank’s analytical products that help countries invest more effectively in people. They offer a comprehensive view of the state of human capital in a country, assess opportunities and challenges in areas key to human capital development, and identify priorities for action. HCRs stand out for their multisectoral, lifecycle approach—showing how investments across health, education, social protection and labor markets combine to build, protect, and use human capital at every stage of life, from early childhood through retirement. We are a global collaboration with a shared vision for a resilient economy that values what matter. We work with organizations and individuals spanning global systems to understand the value that flows from the capitals and to ensure that it is included in decision-making. We accelerates momentum, leverages success, connects powerful and engaged communities and identifies the areas, projects and partnerships where we can collaboratively drive transformational change.
